Strut Bearing Replacement Steps: DIY Installation Guide
Prep
- Tools: spring compressor, sockets, torque wrench, pry bar
- Safety: compressed springs are dangerous - use a quality compressor, compress evenly
Steps
- Lift, remove wheel
- Unbolt strut from knuckle and top mount nuts
- Remove strut assembly
- Compress spring, remove center nut
- Remove nut, bearing, spring seat - note order
- Install new bearing (mind direction - most mark "TOP")
- Reassemble, align spring end to lower seat notch
- Torque top nut to spec (usually 45-70 N·m)
- Refit wheel, retorque, align
DIY Notes
- Wrong bearing orientation fails fast
- Torque everything - no guessing
- Always align afterwards
- If unsure, use a pro - springs can injure
