Honda Civic Strut Bearing Replacement: 8th and 9th Gen Guide
Civic Mount Structure
The MacPherson front end integrates a thrust bearing in the mount - it pivots steering and supports the body. 8th/9th gen cars have large volumes and high mount turnover.
Noise Diagnosis
- Clunk when turning: raceway or cage damage
- Creak over bumps: aged rubber
- Notchy return: binding bearing
- Road test both sides to locate
Replacement Process
- Lift, remove wheel
- Unbolt strut from knuckle and top nuts
- Remove the assembly
- Compress the spring, remove center nut
- Remove old bearing and mount, clean seats
- Fit the new bearing (mind orientation), reassemble
- Torque, lower and retorque
- Align
Notes
- Wrong orientation fails fast
- Spring work is high-risk - use good tools
- Check dust boots and replace if torn
