The Regal front end is MacPherson with a thrust bearing in the mount. US mid-size cars ride soft; aged rubber makes noise more obvious.
Symptoms
- Turning noise, worse at low speed
- Creak or clunk over bumps
- Notchy return
- Loose front feel
Checks
- Turn in place to locate
- Lift and inspect rubber
- Rotate the bearing for catch and play
- Shake the wheel to rule out hub bearing and joints
Replacement
- Spring compressor essential
- Note the order, mind bearing orientation
- Replace aged rubber with the mount
- Torque, lower, retorque and align
