Strut Bearing vs Thrust Bearing: Don't Buy the Wrong Part
Mostly the Same Part
In repair shops, mount bearing, strut bearing, pressure bearing and thrust bearing usually all mean the angular contact thrust bearing atop the strut.
Nuances
- Pressure/plane bearing: Generic - takes axial load
- Thrust bearing: Named by loading type
- Strut/mount bearing: Named by location, inside the mount assembly
- Careful: Transmissions and steering columns also have thrust bearings - don't mix
Order Right
- Give make + model + year + engine
- Cross-check OE numbers
- Measure ID/OD/thickness
- Confirm if it comes with the mount assembly
