Shock Leaks: When Replacement Is Required
Seep vs Leak
- Seep (film): thin oily film holding dust, no drip, damping OK - monitor
- Leak (wet/drip): 1/3+ of body wet or dripping - damping gone, replace
- Failed: nearly empty, multiple rebounds - replace now
Criteria
- Oil film area on the body
- Bounce test: 2+ rebounds
- Road test: lingering bounce
- Check rod for oil (rod wet = seal failure)
Why Not Delay
- Spring alone: poor control and grip
- Dive and roll increase - safety down
- Can damage the mount
