Weak Steering Return: Steering System Checks
Return Principle
Self-centering comes mainly from caster, plus camber and tire side forces.
Causes of Weak Return
- Low caster: Geometry changed by impact
- Low/uneven tire pressure or wear
- Steering gear binding: Wear or assist fault
- Sticky tie rod ends: Dry, torn boots
- Bad lower arm bushings
- Wrong alignment (excess toe)
Checks
- Tire pressure and condition
- Lift: tie rod ends, arm bushings for binding
- Steering gear noise/leaks
- Alignment: caster reading
Fix
Rule out tires/joints/bushings first, then alignment; replace bent parts if caster is off. Huami supplies rods, joints, bushings.
