Judging Shock Leaks

Oil leaks are the most common failure. Light seepage = monitor; obvious leaks = replace.

Severity Levels

• Level 1 (seepage): Oil trace, no drip. Monitor.
• Level 2 (leak): Dirt sticking to oil on tube. Damping drops. Replace soon.
• Level 3 (severe): Dripping, failed damping, bouncing. Replace NOW.

Checks

1. Visual check for oil film on tube
2. Bounce test: settle in 1-2 cycles
3. Drive test: excess motion over bumps

Tips

Replace in axle pairs. Check mounts, bearings and dust covers together.
