Steering Pull and Tires: Wheel Alignment Basics Explained
Common Pull Causes
- Tire pressure: Left-right difference (check first)
- Uneven tire wear: Big left-right difference
- Misalignment: Toe and camber off
- Worn suspension: Arms, joints, bushings play
Three Key Parameters
- Camber: Wheel tilt in/out at top. Negative improves cornering, too much wears tires
- Toe: Front of wheels angled inward. Wrong toe causes feathering and pull
- Caster: Steering axis tilt back; affects self-centering and stability
Diagnosis Order
- Set tire pressures
- Check tire wear and rotate
- Inspect/replace worn suspension parts first
- Align and road test
