Strut Mount vs Spring Seat: What Each Does
Two Confused Parts
Strut mount: At strut top, connects to body, carries load, allows steering rotation.
Spring seat/isolator: At spring ends, seats the coil, isolates metal-to-metal contact and noise.
Roles
- Mount: Body connection, load bearing, bearing inside, impact cushioning
- Spring seat: Spring positioning, load spread, noise isolation, prevents metal wear
Failure Signs
- Mount: Tower noise, noise on turns, loose feel
- Spring seat: Squeaks over bumps, spring shift, ride height change
Notes
- Replace both spring seats when doing struts/springs
- Seats have top/bottom - do not swap
- Always check bearing with mount replacement
