Uneven Tire Wear: Patterns and Their Chassis Causes
Patterns and Causes
1. One-Edge Wear
- Cause: Excessive camber (outside) or insufficient (inside)
- Fix: Align camber; eccentric bolts if fixed
2. Center Wear
- Cause: Overinflation
- Fix: Set correct pressure
3. Both-Edge Wear
- Cause: Chronic underinflation
- Fix: Inflate, check slow leaks
4. Feathering (Toe Issue)
- Cause: Toe misalignment, tire scrubbing
- Fix: Align toe
5. Cupping (Suspension Issue)
- Cause: Failed shocks, bearing play, joint/bushing play
- Fix: Replace shocks and suspension parts
Process
- Check and set pressures
- Read the wear pattern
- Fix suspension play first
- Align and rotate
Huami supplies shock parts, bushings, joints to fix the root of tire wear.
